- Improve safety by giving
both left and right hand operators the same
advantage.
History:
My wife, Jean brought this to my attention while she
was using our first machine. She stopped after a few
minutes and said, “this is a safety issue, I’m left
handed and having problems using the right brake”.
Jean asked, “Can we put a brake on the left side?
Yes, I replied, but it will cost more. What do you
want to do? Jean said “put on the left brake we
can’t have it this way”.
- Improve safety by making it
easier to operate.
History:
With two brakes Jean was able to move the machine
with less effort. She locked the left brake and
pivoted on that wheel, then locked the right brake -
unlocked the left brake and pivoted on the right
wheel. This way she found she could walk the unit
through the chips, up hills and out of the hole very
easily. If it’s easy for Jean, a 5’ 2” over 60
“girl” to operate a BeeLine Stump Grinder you can
too.
- Improve safety by making it
easier to operate.
History:
I told Jean the best advice I could give her was to
pretend that she was lazy and ask herself “How can I
take this stump out easier”? Darn if she didn’t find
another way to make it easier. Jean uses the left
brake then the right one. By alternating brakes she
was able to go through the stump quicker and easier
and had better control making it safer to operate.
Note:
Did you notice what happened? Jean was having a
problem using the right brake. I put a left brake on
and she found easier ways to use the stump grinder.
One of them is using the right brake which she
couldn’t use before. It just goes to show that every
person goes through a learning curve when operating
a new piece of equipment. I am blessed to have Jean
for a wife. Some of the many things I appreciate
about her are her flexibility and eagerness to
accept change.
